Celebrating Our Talented HSP Artists by Andrea Weber

We’ve put the call out for creativity and what a response we’ve received! Our community is brimming with talent and we wanted to share this with all of our readers. Every week, we’re featuring an artist’s work within the Sensitive Empowerment Community and here on the HSP and Neurodivergent Blog, we’ll be featuring a community member Artist of the Month.
We have members who paint, draw, write stories and poems, take beautiful photographs, make earrings, themed headpieces, gift cards and any number of other craft based creations.
Artistic pursuits can form a nurturing and essential part of self-care for highly sensitive people who report significant benefits of calming the nervous system, enhanced mental acuity, and a sense of overall accomplishment that gets the endorphins flowing. Apart from bringing pure joy through the act itself, art and crafting can help with self-regulation through reduced levels of stress, anxiety and tension.
When we’re in the process of designing and creating, we’re activating areas of the brain that stimulate ideas, arouse imagination, make connections and problem solve. Taking time out for creative arts gives a sense of security where we’re participating in an activity that’s just for us in that moment. Our nervous system takes a break from being in ‘survival mode’ and we’re actively affirming the message that we’re worth it!
The benefits of making art are there for everyone, regardless of previous experience or level of skill. Engaging in art that involves several of the senses is also highly beneficial for sensitive people. Using our hands for things like modelling clay, working with wood or painting brings touch and texture while listening to music or the sounds of nature brings relaxation and calm.
Creating art collectively fosters connection, and we are now hosting Community Co-Creates where we all get together and work on our chosen activities while happily chatting away and giving each other lots of encouragement. Enjoying this kind of positive engagement with supportive like-minded people leaves members feeling inspired, motivated and uplifted. The idea for co-creates came from Christine Magnussen, our host of the over 60s group within the community and it was so well-received that we decided to run them for everyone.
Members of our Business Group also enjoy the benefits of featuring on our Directories for HSPs that are shared with a global audience as well as the ability to host events and write for the HSP Blog, all creating wonderful opportunities for exposure and the sharing of much appreciated talent.

Andrea contributes beautifully written articles for websites and publications in the areas of mindful wellbeing and joyful creativity. Her work also features the constructive management of environmental sensitivities.
