Earn Multiple Sources of Income with Affiliate Programs

If you starting or growing an online business, you can make a large amount of extra income through affiliate programs that support days off for self-care and downtime.

Watch this 6-minute video to learn more.

Affiliate programs are arrangements in which an online merchant (like me) pays you (the affiliate) for sending people to their site to make a purchase and is a fantastic source of extra income. It’s also free to join and I pay my affiliates 50% commission.

The affiliate is paid a percentage of the sale when someone buys from that merchant due to using the affiliate’s link. Your affiliate links set a referral cookie in the buyer's browser, so anything they buy during the lifespan of that cookie will track the referral. Most cookies will track about 3-6 months, depending on the merchant. This means that if someone clicks your affiliate link to go to the merchant website but doesn't purchase until months later, you still get the commission! There are a few types to consider.

  • Be an affiliate for individuals, like me! I will use my affiliate information as an example to help you understand the process. My affiliates earn 50% on all sales from their unique affiliate link. For example, if you were my affiliate, I would give you a unique link that you could share with your audience, and if someone clicks that link that brings them to my website, it will track what they purchase. So if someone buys one of my courses for $300, you get $150, and I get $150. It's a win-win for the affiliate and the merchant!

  • Be an affiliate for companies or products

  • Create your own affiliate program. You can have an affiliate program where you give people a unique link they use to sell your digital products and programs. People get paid to market for you, which can expand your customer reach because you start accessing their audience! You can see my affiliate page here to learn how I do it.

  • Becoming an affiliate is free and easy to set up. You usually give the platforms your Paypal email address (free to get if you don't have Paypal), and then payments get automatically added to your PayPal account. Be sure you are separating your personal from a business Paypal account.

  • Most affiliate links track for 3-6 months, so anyone you send to a website using your affiliate link will earn a commission, even if they come back months later. It's a great way to start earning extra income. Some people do this for all their income!

  • The affiliates that I have that earn the most tend to market my content actively and not passively — for example, just having a link on your website may not be as effective as promoting the content in your newsletter or live events. Some of my affiliates will create clips from my videos or podcasts and use that to let people know about my work. These are the affiliates that tend to get the most commission.
