Sensitive Sages Group for 60+ Celebrates Six-Months
Guest Post by Christine Magnussen, Host, Sensitive Sage Group
Early in January, Sensitive Sages gathered on live video to usher in the New Year. It was a special occasion as half of the attendees were new members joining their first online event in our Sensitive Sage community. The session was filled with laughter, inspiration, and deep conversations, fostering connections among individuals with diverse interests and backgrounds. Members expressed joy at “finally finding a peer group” where they truly "get each other."
With the Baby Boomer generation comprising 25% of the U.S. population, the significance of community for older Americans is highlighted as a top health priority. For Highly Sensitive People (HSPs), the need for deep connection is even more valuable. In the Sensitive Sages community, bonds are formed over discussing health, isolation, and life purpose.
As HSPs, all Sensitive Sage group members belong to the larger online Sensitive Empowerment Community, where you will find free courses such as "High Sensitivity & Anxiety." Sensitive Sages, named for the wisdom gained over their lifetime, provide a secure and private space for HSPs in the Boomer and Beyond age group, with current members in their 60-80’s. Members express gratitude for having a supportive group that “embraces the adventure of aging.”
Responding to a survey distributed in July 2023, the group explores topics based on members' interests, with top votes for self-care specific to age-related changes and fostering community and purpose. Over the past six months, members have engaged in live Zoom events on topics such as the "Lives Well Lived" documentary, "Connecting with Children & Grandchildren,” “Meaning & Purpose,” and “Designing Your Best Year Ahead!” Our last event was so popular that we scheduled an additional debriefing session!
The community has provided support through both challenging times and celebratory moments, reflecting the empathetic nature of HSPs. Together, we uplift, learn, listen and laugh.
