On a Journey to Self-Worth by Mylyn Isidoro

Embracing our uniqueness and self-worth is a crucial part of our lives that affects everything from our relationships to our career choices. Unfortunately, many of us struggle, like me, with feelings of low self-worth and inadequacy when we let things affect us, and we end up in those dark places. But the good news is it’s never too late to pull ourselves from the dark places and start our journey toward self-worth, self-discovery, and self-acceptance. These are a few steps that have helped me and may help you on your journey to self-worth.

Recognize Your Beliefs

The first step toward self-worth is becoming aware of the thoughts and beliefs that hold you back. Negative self-talk and limiting beliefs can be deeply planted in our subconscious and can limit our ability to see our own worth. Start by becoming aware of these thoughts and writing them down. I love journaling, and this may help you.

Challenge Your Thoughts

When we are stuck, our brains will latch on to negative thoughts. Once you’ve recognized your negative thoughts and beliefs, it’s important to challenge them. Ask yourself if these thoughts are based on facts or old beliefs that no longer serve you. Remember, your thoughts do not define you, and you have the power to change them. I know, easier said than done.

Practice Self-Care

This is the root of this journey. If we are not healthy, our minds and body will not function to help us. Self-care is essential for boosting your self-worth. Take care of your physical, emotional, and mental well-being by engaging in activities that make you feel good. This could be anything from exercise and healthy eating to reading, writing, and spending time near water or in nature. Do things that make you happy and that are special to you.

Surround Yourself with Supportive People

This is so very important. They can be anyone with your best interest in heart and have never disappeared in your darkest moments. Surrounding yourself with people who support and encourage you can significantly impact your self-worth. Seek out positive, uplifting relationships and let go of toxic relationships that bring you down.

Celebrate Your Accomplishments

We often think that celebrating our milestones makes us selfish and seem “show-offish”. It’s not. We need to praise ourselves more often. Take time to celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how small they may seem. Acknowledge your strengths and focus on your progress rather than your failures.

Accept Your Imperfections

Accept Your Imperfections. We are too hard on ourselves. Perfection does not exist. It’s important to embrace your imperfections and understand that they are what make you unique. Recognize that everyone has flaws and that’s okay. By accepting and loving ourselves, just as we are, we can build a stronger relationship with our self-worth. Acceptance and Understanding. These are two very important words towards your growth. Once you have mastered and truly understood these two words, then you are well on your way to Self-Worth and Self-Growth.

The journey to self-worth can be challenging, but with perseverance and a commitment to self-growth, it can lead to a life of happiness and fulfillment. Remember, self-worth is not something that can be earned, it’s something we were born with; that belongs to each and every one of us. You also have to remember, that you are not alone in this journey.

Here’s a light-hearted book of quotes to uplift and remind anyone that they are enough in this world.
